The setting ‘names’ may change at any point. The following are only intended as a rough overview, not a comprehensive description.
Lorenza Vorpe University
Some humans are born with magical powers, defined by three aspects: affinity, ability, and focus.
There are two parts to this setting. One: the University itself. Unlike a typical university, it doesn’t take applications. Instead, there are several affinity-seekers on staff who are continually searching for children with magical ability, who are then added to a database and, when the time comes, are sent an acceptance letter. It offers both normal academic programs and degrees as well as several related to various aspects of the magical side of life.
And Two: a sister-association with the University, which functions both as an aid to find those with magical affinities and neutralize those who present a threat to society; a sort of magical special ops police force, except unconnected to the government. I haven’t named it yet.
Saeland and Other Stories
Was referred to for years as “my steampunk setting”.
An alternate Earth-like world which is historically and geographically similar, but distinct. The most developed time period and region is culturally similar to 19th century Europe, with Saeland being a) the most developed, and b) analogous to Great Britain. Other areas that have been touched upon are those analogous to Germany, France, and Arabia.
There are canonical magical creatures which exist but are not commonly recognized in aforementioned time period and place.
The ‘ari world
A fantasy planet which is actually a moon, orbiting a gas giant. Similar climate range to Earth, but much smaller. The humanoid species is generically referred to as ‘ari because that’s like a -man suffix a la Englishman and I’m lazy. They have elemental magic. A goodly portion of mammalian species sport antlers, and I am building the language.
There is no especially developed time period. The “official” timeline ranges retrograde-primitive semi-tribal low-tech to roughly approximating the early Renaissance.
ZEPPELINS!
It is a steampunk world that is mostly water and uninhabitable wastelands. (More of the former than the latter.) As a result, the vast majority of travel is by air or sea.
Also, there are no electronics because of Reasons.
They are Valid Reasons. I just don’t want to share them because it’s more fun if I eventually write things and you all figure it out yourselves.
Miscellany
There are a few scattered ambiguous setting-fragments here and there which may eventually cohere into something.
